Eden Roc celebrates its anniversary with history and flavor
There is a view, here in Positano, that never ceases to amaze.
And it is from that view – from a terrace suspended between sky and sea – that on 1st August 1970 our story began.
This is how Hotel Eden Roc was born: from a dream, from a return, from a man who believed that hospitality was first and foremost a gesture of love.
Domenico Casola (for everyone, Dominic), young and visionary, returned from the United States with a clear idea: to create a place capable of welcoming with the warmth of home and the beauty of his land.
That place was here, where he played happily as a child.
That terrace today is the heart of Eden Roc.
At first Dominic followed the hotel from a distance, travelling between America and Italy. Then Positano drew him back, and together with his wife Lina and sons Raffaele and Lorenzo, he built more than a hotel: he built a way of being.
Today, after 55 years, the spirit is the same. Only a little more mature. Just with even more love.
Because what tells a story well is sometimes a dish itself.
A recipe originated in 1971, from a letter received at the reception.
A few handwritten lines, addressed “To the Cook of Eden Roc.”
“I am about to arrive at your hotel, seeking quiet and inspiration. But more than anything, I’m looking for a dish that can tell me about the Coast in one bite. I love the sincere aromas: onions sizzling, bacon singing, tomatoes smelling of summer. But I also dream of a sweet ending. I don’t want anything complicated, just something real. I rely on you.”
– A guest in search of home
When the guest tasted, he smiled and said nothing. But the message was clear: he had found the taste of home.
That dish became Le Penne at Eden Roc. A guarded secret, reserved for the most special moments.
Like this one.
55 years later, we bring them back to the table. For you. For us. For those who feel that real flavors can speak to the heart.
It wasn’t just a phrase, it was a way of experiencing hospitality. A gentle reminder: that’s the way should be. Always.
For a toast, a story to share, and why not, a forkful of Penne’s at Eden Roc overlooking the sea. 🙂
